My comment was obviously a generalization - just a different spin on the majority of the viewpoints expressed.

I've had so many experiences with "men and their mothers" - all the mothers were great, their sons less so. Not necessarily abusive (although there was that, also), but in cases where the son could do no wrong, it was detrimental to said son's emotional development.

You've been so very lucky to have that stepmother in your life - I myself found my own "mothers" after I was an adult and on my own; they've both unfortunately left us now, but I miss them daily.

I have been able to introduce Andrea to my own mother; she feels like she knows him because I gave her his book to read - now I'm hoping to have the family get a CD player for her for Christmas, because I really think she needs his music.
