Back when the earth was cooling, we were very careful about where we stepped. But when a wild beast attacked we had to run across the burning ground. It was accompanied by screams of oooh aaah.
Then one day a big shaggy male of our ancestors who was called Bo varied the oooh and aaah with a melodic sound. And do re mi was born. We called it a major key.
Many were drawn to the beautiful sound and began to imitate it, just for the sheer pleasure of it. Unfortunately there were other males who were troubled by the attraction of the females of our species to this big shaggy male, so they constructed something that could float on the water, rounded up a few other males who shared the love of do re mi (including one named Pav), selected a group of females (leaving the rest disconsolate), and sent them away across the big pond. After many long weeks on the water land was sighted. The group landed in a place we now call Italy and they lived and prospered and bore many children and created much beautiful music.
Back on the other side of the big pond, there was a lovely woman with dark skin who was sad to lose the beautiful voice. She varied the sound of the do re mi, and a minor key was born. One of her descendants has become rather famous, too -- named Alicia.
