I understand exactly how you feel and the depth of those feelings. However, I took that passage of the book as an example of Adriano's mischievousness - the laughter wasn't at what happened to the horse, but rather, the pandemonium that ensued. You'll note that Andrea goes on to say more about Adriano and his unique qualities.

I have never seen or heard of Andrea Bocelli laughing at any person's or animal's pain or misfortune, and I don't think that was the case here, either. You and I might have picked up on the action to the horse when the story was related, but these guys didn't, and I don't think it's cause to attack any of them for it.
