I discovered AB on PBS' broadcast of "NIT." Since then, I've attended many
concerts from his American concert debut at the Kennedy Center to his Statue
of Liberty concert July 2000 and attended two performances of "Werther." I
discovered opera through his voice, but it was his passionate words about the
subject that made me curious enough to purchase his "VI" recording. I now
own many opera CDs and videos and spend hours reading technical books about
singing opera, especially the Italian School of Music, and comparing one tenor's version of an aria at different points in his career with AB's version. I usually like AB's version the best, but Corelli has won a few by
a very slim margin! I would love to sit at a piano with AB and ask him to play or sing examples of some of the things I've been reading about, but since I'm not a singer, I'm not sure that I am hearing what I understand intellectually. My favorite arias sung by AB are "Pourquoi me reveiller," "Sancta Maria," "Ombra mai fu," "Di quella pira," and "Che gelida manina" and the third act from "La Boheme." I would love to hear him sing "O' Souverein (sp?)" from "El Cid" and "Un di, all' azzurro" and "Su dalla terra" from "Andrea Chenier."
