Andrea didn't take part in the closing ceremonies but NBC played him singing Because We Believe from his album Amore at the very end of their coverage.

Here on Cape Cod they definately know who he is and buy his cds, dvds and concert tickets. Also the local classical station here is enormously popular.

Sally, You're post brought fond memories. For some reason I took a real liking to that poem when I was in the third grade and memorized it. I still can recite it from memory after 60years.
