| I'm a high school senior at an atrs school. For my senior thesis, I have to perform a solo piece of my choice, and write an abstract about that piece. I've chosen to perform "Con te Partiro." Unfortunately, the liner notes in my copy of the "Romanza" CD only provide the lyrics and the composers' and lyricists' last names. I need to know when the song was written, what occasion it was written for, etc. Please help me and provide any info you can. |

I don't know if anything here will help you or not, but this is about all I know regarding this song.
In February 1995, he goes to the main competition in Sanremo with "Con Te Partiro" and takes fourth place.
Note: He had already recorded this piece and although he thought it interesting, out of the ordinary, he thought it too refined, elegant, for this competition. He expressed his opinion to his mgrs, but they wanted him to do it.
I had read somewhere that Sarah Brightman was to sing at the following event, (see next paragraph), then one day she heard Andrea on a radio, singing this song. She didn't know who he was at the time, but soon found out because she wanted to do this song in duet with him for the event.

On November 23, 1996 he sings together with English soprano Sarah Brightman (ex-wife of musical-king Andrew Lloyd Weber) in Germany. They sing as a parting song for Henry Maske's last fight, a different version of his "Con Te Partiro", "Time to Say Goodbye". The song breaks all sales records afterwards in the record industry, and remains on the top ten on the German hit parade for almost a half year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1997 His fourth album "Romanza" appears in the spring.
On March 3, he appears with Sarah Brightman in Hamburg, Germany, to receive the Echo award for "Best Single of the Year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bellagio in Las Vegas uses "Con Te Partiro" in their advertisments, and the "dancing waters" show. |
