I have just been listening to Classic FM and I hear that Russell Watson's latest album is at No. 7 in their chart. I haven't heard the album so can't comment but I am definitely not a fan although many are. It just struck me however that he owes such a lot to Andrea as,indeed ,do so many others. The survival of classical music and its accessibility depends upon "the masses". I don't understand how music ever got to be the perogative of one narrow circle. I wonder if the "dinosaurs" are any nearer to accepting this now?

I was reading an interview with Joseph Calleja who is a young successful opera singer. He was asked about Bocelli. Calleja said he would not commemt on whether or not Andrea was an opera singer, but he said that the amount of money Andrea brings in for his record companies allows these companies to record opera singers who don't bring in the big bucks, as opera singers have such limited followings.
