Bocelli gets coveted wedding invite
Singer to be one of few Italians at Cruise- Holmes bash ROME -

Singer Andrea Bocelli became the focus of widespread envy among Italian socialites on Thursday when it emerged that he has an invitation to attend the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

At present he is the only Italian confirmed as being on the guest list for the country's most glamorous wedding of the year - a three-day event scheduled to be hosted in a lakeside castle near Rome.

The Tuscan performer's staff confirmed that he has been invited to the bash but aides could not confirm reports that he will sing for the couple.

According to some sources, the only other Italian who stands a chance of going to the Odescalchi castle on Lake Bracciano will be Hollywood costume and set designer Dante Ferretti.

Giorgio Armani, who is known to have designed Holmes' wedding gown and Cruise's suit, may be there but this is not 100% certain. However, it seems likely because he has reportedly been given the job of overseeing the entire event.

Bocelli to perform at Cruise-Holmes wedding

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will reportedly perform at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wedding next weekend.

The blind opera star has confirmed to friends he will attend and sing at the event, reportedly due to take place at the Castello Odescalchi in Bracciano, near Rome.

A friend of Bocelli says: "They asked him to sing because Katie particularly likes Ave Maria. It will give the ceremony a Catholic religious element, which is important to her. ....."

Will one of the world’s most famous singers croon at TomKat’s wedding?

Tom Cruise is pulling out all the stops for his top-of-the-line nuptials, and has reportedly booked the 15th century castle Odescalchi outside of Rome for the event; Giorgio Armani is designing the clothes; and now the buzz in Italy is that famed tenor Andrea Bocelli has agreed to sing at the wedding.

Bocelli has confirmed to Italian press that he has been invited to attend the ceremony, but won’t comment on word that he’ll sing there.

Meanwhile, though, there are reports that socialites and celebs in Italy are angling for an invite to the event, which is said to be a three-day celebration at the castle.

“Several of the aristocratic female friends of Princess Odescalchi, owner of the castle location, apparently went to her and asked to work for free as hostesses at the wedding,” reports the Italian news service, Ansa. “The princess’ response to the response to the requests of her friends was: ‘No thank you. I don’t even know if I’m going to be invited myself.’”

Cruise’s spokesman told The Scoop that he wasn’t commenting on anything involving the TomKat wedding.

Washington, Nov 17 (ANI): Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli has dismissed rumours that he will be singing at Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding this weekend.

Rumours were circulating that the world famous singer, writer and music producer would be singing the 'Ave Maria' as guests arrive at the Castello Odescalchi in Bracciano - the venue of the wedding.

However, while Bocelli confirmed that he would be attending the couple's nuptials, he insisted that he would only be a guest.

"I will be there as a guest," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

The singer won't be the only celebrity at the ceremony, for Hollywood heavyweights like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Brooke Shields, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Jim Carrey and Jenny Mccarthy and Jennifer Lopez have all descended in the Italian city to attend their friends' wedding.

Cruise and Holmes will be hosting a pre-wedding party on Friday (Nov 17), followed by a Catholic ceremony on Saturday (Nov 18) and a final Scientology ceremony on Sunday (Nov 19). (ANI)

The most recent information I read had Andrea stating he would not sing at the wedding because he is Catholic and it is a Scientology service BUT that he would sing something for them at the reception as a "wedding present". It will be interesting to hear if Katie gets her "Ave Maria" after all.

The stories I saw said he sang "Besame Mucho" and "Somos Novios". I wonder if he sang ALL the songs or not. Any song from THE MAN is quite a gift! bouncy
