I just returned from my very first Bocelli concert in Denver Colorado -- and what a memorable experience it was. Andrea has such a beautiful voice...I could have just sat there and listened for hours and I have absolutely no comprehension of the lyrics. Mr. Bocelli's voice can move one's soul. The entire performance was simply incredible -- a concert I will never forget.
I also felt connected with the many Bocelli fans that I met -- many we met had also traveled to Denver for the performance from Utah, Seattle and Omaha. We were all so excited to be there!
After the concert, we went to a restaurant and wine bar near the Pepsi Center called Venice and learned that Andrea was there the night before for a fundraiser. They were playing all of his music that evening -- it was very special just to be there after a spectacular concert.
Thank you Mr. Bocelli for coming to the Midwest! |

From the Rocky Mountain News!
Italian tenor understated, powerful
By Marc Shulgold, Rocky Mountain News
December 11, 2006
All the trappings of a rock concert were evident Saturday at the Pepsi Center: rows of stretch limos parked out front, high-priced tickets, stage smoke and fancy lighting.
Nothing was missing Saturday - except a flamboyant rock star.
Instead, the object of everyone's affection was the bashful, no-frills Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Content to stand stock-still, arms at his side, the sightless singer smiled bashfully at the adulation and sang. Which was just fine with his fans, many of whom paid more than $400 to hear him croon.
So understated was his performance that when he switched from black tux to white, late in the concert, it elicited a big response. The tenor then spoke for the first time, explaining that he needed to change the mood by changing jackets. The faithful cheered as Bocelli launched into a pair of dreamy love songs from his latest pop album.
Backed by a solid, locally assembled orchestra, he sang with understated passion and impressive power - seemingly unaffected by the high elevation. Among those impressed: conductor Steven Mercurio, who praised the tenor's endlessly held final note of Besame Mucho.
That note swelled, receded and swelled again, extending well into the end-of-song applause. This should come as no surprise: Bocelli's no mere pop stylist, but a trained, talented opera singer. To underscore that fact, Bocelli programmed the first half with nothing but operatic favorites.
He opened with the familiar Vesti la Giubba ("laugh, clown, laugh") and visited Verdi several times, both solo (De Quella Pira) and with the capable Illinois-born soprano Ailyn Perez and the less-than-capable Mexican baritone Luis Ledesma.
Those guest artists were given their own solo moments, which allowed the tenor to rest, and sang duets with the evening's star. Though Bocelli and Perez delivered a nice Love duet from Puccini's La Boheme, most of those collaborations served merely to remind listeners of Bocelli's superior skills.
Most telling was the tenor-baritone duet from Bizet's Pearl Fishers, in which Ledesma all but swallowed his vocal part, while the tenor soared effortlessly above.
Only during the upper reaches of Vieni sul Mar did Bocelli's voice show strain. Once nestled in the lower range of the second half's romantic ballads, his singing grew in size and expressiveness - culminating in the biggest thrill of the night: a duet of Somos Novios with a magnetic singer named Nita Whitaker.
The former Miss Louisiana's rich vocal skills energized Bocelli; the two lifted a schmaltzy ballad to unexpected heights. What a shame it would be her only offering.
The tenor returned in encore with his first hit, Con Te Partiro, acknowledged the cheers, took a bow with his cohorts and left the stage with a simple goodbye wave.

Thank you for the reviews!! I am happy to hear he did well up here. I have been to other shows and they always complain about the altitude. *lol*
We couldn't afford the tickets to go see the beloved Bocelli, and I was so crushed over it, still am |

Hi Jessica,
I'm sorry you missed the concert in Denver. It was truly incredible. I must say though, I purchased the DVD "Under the Desert Sky" and enjoy the experience almost as much. Andrea didn't interact that much with the audience in concert, whereas in the DVD he speaks in between nearly every song.
Here's what I want to know -- how in the world does one get really good seats? I purchased "best available" through ticketmaster for $275 and we were still located fairly high up to the right -- nearly perpendicular to the stage. From where we were sitting, we couldn't really see the big screen because of the angle that we were at. Of course, we could hear perfectly, but as I was looking at thousands of people in much better seats, I couldn't help but wonder... |

Great question Krunlov,
I am willing to spend the money for the very best tickets (face value) to see Andrea but am unable to purchase them thru ticketmaster - never available. People with connections can certainly secure them.
I have made a promise to myself that I will not again purchase tickets if I cannot experience Andrea up close and personal. For me the experience is only complete if I can watch him sing as well as listen. Watching on a big screen is like watching television - it simply is not the same.
Happy New Year!

I'm sure "connected" people have no trouble getting primo seats anytime they want them but please don't believe all the folks in the front rows have connections. I know people who have scored first few rows just through Ticketmaster like regular folks. And those people I know? They ARE regular folks! Lucky for me, at my last arena concert one of those lucky folks bought my ticket for me and *I* was in the front row center. It was awesome! But I'd never not go to a show if I couldn't sit there. I don't expect to have a seat that great ever again but that's not going to keep me away. Regarding "big screens", I've often wondered why they have never again had the set-up they did for the "Sentimento" tour of 2002. There the big screen (and I do mean BIG SCREEN) was the stage backdrop. It was like seeing Andrea on a movie screen--this was far bigger than the screens we are used to seeing at either side of the stage in standard arena concerts. I was torn between looking directly at Andrea and looking at him SO BIG on the screen! I kept telling myself, "but that's the REAL him onstage there". Then I'd say, "but you've never seen him SO BIG before!". Sigh! I miss that BIG SCREEN! |
