Friends will be visiting Italy May or June 2004 and would like to go to the Bocelli Winery. Does anyone know where it is and if the public is permitted.

Also, can you tell me which town Andrea lives in?
Thank you

Hi Tennis, the Cantina Bocelli is situated in La Sterza, Tuscany. Via Volterra, it is just past Lajatico. It is on the main road, just past a garage, it can be quite difficult to spot as there arent any signs for the cantina, just a small sign on the doors. It is open to the public, but not on a holiday, and you just have to take a chance it being open! There arent any official opening times, but if nobody is there, try ringing the bell on the house/office to its right, failing that, there is a stairwell on the side of it, go up there and a nice lady will open it up for you! Good luck!
Andrea now lives in Forte dei marmi, Versillia.
This is just passed Viarregio!
Prices of the wine vary, but expect to pay between 6-8 euro a bottle, also there is a special wine, limited amount, dedicated to Andrea's father called Terre di Sandro, this is 30 euro a bottle!
Good luck with your trip to Tuscany! You must come back here and tell us all about it! Ciao per adesso Tina x

Tina,

Thank you so very much for the information. I haven't checked this site in about 2 weeks and was so delighted that you wrote me. I will surely tell you and all if we find the winery. Thanks also for the name of the town Andrea lives it. Wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Tennis..... no doubt your friends will have the time of their lives. May and June are the absolute perfect months to indulge in an Italian vacation!

Tina.... have you ever heard how many bottles of wine they sell a day? Offhand, I can only visualize people lining down the country paths for miles on end, just to get their hands on a bottle - no matter what the cost. Is this a daily scene in reality? I sure would think so.

Also... (don't laugh at this question)...but seriously, how do they keep people away from Andrea's home? He is so open about the area in which he lives.... and yet you never hear of that causing him problems with privacy and such. This always confuses me. Don't get me wrong, I would never have the courage to even sneak up the path in the middle of the night. However, I might be found in a tall tree 2 miles away with darn good ZOOM binoculars :D

Hi Sandie, Im not sure how much wine is sold, but each time i have been to the Cantina, ive been the only customer! No queues!
As for people visiting his home, Im sure he does get the odd fan popping by, but he does have security, and i dont think this is a problem for him.
The majority of his fans i trust would respect his privacy, and like you, i wouldnt dare go up and ring his doorbell! Binoculars are a good idea though! LOL!

Thanks for the info, Tina. I really find that interesting (that lines aren't going in circles around the vineyards to buy their wine). Actually, I am shocked to be honest. Do you think that is because maybe it's not a highly publicised thing? I am assuming this Cantina is the same place where the honey is sold, too. Oh I can "feel" myself there with Angelo. I can just feel it. Am smiling and shivering!

As for the zoom binoculars....now I have two missions.... save enough to get there in the first place....AND purchase the best zoom lens in the world.

Catch you later... innnnn the tree's!! 8) 8) shhhh! eheheh

I just read something about "honey" being sold at the Catina also. I don't know anything about Honey. Could someone enlighten me? Second Question: is a "catina" the same as a winery. And does anyone know the street that Andrea lives on. Thanks all for your help. Happy New Year[/b]

Yes, they do sell honey there, in different sized jars, and very nice it is too!
The cantina is a cellar which holds the wine, not too big, but not tiny either.
Im sorry, but if i did know the name of the street, i woud not divulge it to anyone, as i think that Andrea and his family have a right to absolute privacy. But you may get lucky and see him walking about! Good luck!
Tina x

psssss...psss.... (shhh!)..... hey, Tina...uhm, do you think you could at least devulge a certain type of tree nearby? Olive tree, fig tree, pine tree, or such? I am not so used to climbing tree's and am not so co-ordinated either....so I dare to risk climbing up each and every tree in Tuscany on a hopeful hope that I am somewhere near the Bocelli villa. You know those darn zoom lens... they do only go SO far, afteralllll

If coming from Florence, what is the best route to take to La Sterza and Lajatico? Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
