2004 SEASON AT TANGLEWOOD, EXCERPTS:

Season Overview
"The Boston Symphony Orchestra will give 21 concerts in the Koussevitzky Music Shed this summer featuring a lineup of world-renowned soloists, including pianists Leon Fleisher (July 10), Emanuel Ax (July 11), Peter Serkin (July 25), Richard Goode (July 30), Yefim Bronfman (August 6), Christian Zacharias (August 8), André Watts (August 15), and Martha Argerich (August 27); violinists Midori (July 16), Christian Tetzlaff (August 21), and Itzhak Perlman (August 28); cellists Claudio Bohórquez (July 23) and Yo-Yo Ma (August 7); and vocalists Bryn Terfel (July 17), Renée Fleming (July 24), Dawn Upshaw (August 1), and Deborah Voigt (August 13). Prominent soloist debuts this summer include pianists Lars Vogt (August 20) and Alexander Gurning (August 27), violinist Renaud Capuçon (July 31), and cellist Truls Mork (August 21).

...Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel's 1998 Seiji Ozawa Hall recital debut was one of the highlights of that season at Tanglewood, and one of the most memorable concerts ever given in the hall. Preceding his return to the Shed stage a few days later, Mr. Terfel gives his first Tanglewood recital in six years on July 13, performing songs by Schubert, Schumann, Tosti, Britten, and Copland with pianist Malcolm Martineau."

I don't have his CD YET...but I will have it soon. Actually, I see that he has a CD out of "show tunes"...I'll get that one, too.

Maybe we should gather our New England contingent together for this...be a nice way to spend a summer's day, don't you think? :P

Great idea, Melodie. The Berkshires are beautiful in the summer, as long as it doesn't rain. We could have a picnic on the lawn.

Wow, the programme sounds really exciting to me. I have a cd with Strauss songs sung by Barbara Bonney, and she is accompanied by Malcolm Martineau. He is a wonderful pianist. The songs on the programme are totally different from what you find on Bryn and the album with showtunes. I am a lover of artsong, and I really love the songs by Schubert and Schumann. I also have sheet music of Copland songs, which will probably be the Old American songs. Copland also belongs to my favourite composers. Well Tosti you'll know from Bocelli's work, and Britten has written great arrangements on british folksongs. Ah, what a pity that I live on the other side of that big pond!

Nina, click on the link in my post - you can see the full schedule for the Tanglewood season (and learn about Tanglewood itself ). I think you'll enjoy it.

Looks indeed like a wonderful programme, so many interesting corcerts and recitals! I noticed that Bryn Terfel will perform on the 17th the Monologues of Hans Sachs from Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Neuremberg" which must also be great! Hey, that's a good idea for the New England fans to get together there...Sure a wonderful alternative for Torre del Lago!
