I take that back about doing better than $1500.
I just checked for a flight from LA to Florence, then to Athens, then back home again -- $1500 is about it.
Siena has an airport, but expedia.com couldn't find flights there. |

Em,
Also try:
https://www.dotres.com
Sometimes their rates are a lot cheaper than either Travelocity or Expedia (not always, though). My niece saved $500 on her trip in and out of Milan in May. If you are going to Siena, you might consider Milan as your destination airport, and then train to Siena. If you decide to do this, let me know, as I have complete instructions for taking the train from Malpensa airport in Milan to the Stazione Mlano Centrale, where you can get a train to Siena.
Milan and Rome are your 2 international airports in Italy, then you would switch to a local or European air carrier to go on to Florence. From there, either take a train, or rent a car. I suggest the train, it's about 4 1/2 hours time from Milan to Siena. You can sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Hope this helps,

Salve, Em! :D
I've been trying to plan a similar trip for myself (though not to such glamorous locations, to be sure! LOL!) and so I took the liberty of seeing what I could find out for you on Travelocity.com this morning...
Your best bet financially is not to plan a 3-leg trip, but to buy instead 2 round-trip tickets... The first from LA to Milan, and the 2nd from Milan to Athens. I got a total price (adding the 2 together) of $ 1,038 USD.
That is leaving LA 05/22, & arriving Milan the next morning; then flying from Milan to Athens 05/29 and returning to Milan 06/04, and continuing an hour later from Milan to LA. If you'd like to see the "itinerary" I got for that, let me know dear - I saved it! :D
I'm sure you will have a WONDERFUL time! :)
nell'amicizia e amore,

Em,
I can't get to dotres.com either, and I'm the one who gave you the link
I know it used to be valid because I had it saved in my favorites and I pulled the web address from there. Maybe they are temporarily (I hope) not functioning.
Sorry!!!

8) This may not work for you, but if you are flexible about when you fly, sometimes you can get some great deals at skyauction.com. My son went from Newark to Sao Paulo, Brazil for $540.00 R/T. That in included all taxes and fees. Of course he left on New Years Eve. but all other auction sites were $1200 or higher. Makes a big difference to a college student who hasn't seen his Brazilian girlfriend in six months :!: It's a fun website.
