I try to keep my Italian heritage alive, for my children and grandchildren even tho' my children are only half Italian (you'd never know it!) .......I want my grandchildren to remember their Italian grandmother.

Dear Rosie,
Sincere, sweet thoughts. And I can certainly identify with them.
My children, too, are half Italian. I have only just become a grandmother 5 months ago. When I look at little Maximus I can't believe that I am a Nona and that my oldest daughter is a mother. Just yesterday I was holding her in my arms! I've been singing to Max since he was first born. He is now beginning to smile with recognition as we sing certain songs to him. (You should hear us all sing Questo Quella to him. He grins from ear to ear.)
My own Nona is 96. When I visited her last, we spoke of how she loves "Tosca". It is her favorite. I know she shall not be with us much longer. This makes me reflect on what my relationship with my grandson will be like. As I look at my Max, I realize that I want to be the Nona that he remembers for sharing "La Musica" with him. It's moved me to learn more, in order to, as you said, keep the Italian heritage alive. (I've actually started voice lessons, but that's another story! ) The goal is to be able to pass on an appreciation of the music we love. If regarded with love and affection, how can we go wrong?
Keep up the good work!
Keep singing!
Anna

Kathanne....I can tell you have affection and respect for Andrea and his many good qualities, including his honesty. How easy it is to be misunderstood without the benefit of body language, facial expression and eye contact, right?!!

Andrea deals with this every moment of his life. I think you are correct. Maybe what we think of as attention getting is only the desire to understand, be understood and respond....not having the tools of communication that we take for granted.

If you look on page 7 of general discussions for a thread titled "Meeting Andrea in Bridgeport"....there is a very lengthy (almost TOO, now that I re-read it myself!) account of our first encounter with Andrea.
Obviously, I was still GA GA...and completely overwhelmed when I wrote that piece!! I almost felt like asking Melodie to delete it!!!
However, I hope you enjoy reading it.
