| I'm wondering if anyone here is familiar with this countertenor. I recently purchased his Handel aria CD. I listened to the live MET broadcast of "Rodelinda" with Daniels and Fleming. At first I couldn't believe my ears when i heard this man's voice. Then I heard his duet with Fleming and actually melted listening to the purity of his voice. So the next thing I knew I was ordering his CD. I can't believe I am actually loving what I hear.It reminds me of the time I bought Andrea's Opera CD and couldn't believe that I was enjoying "opera". Has anyone heard this man sing? If so,what do you think? |

Yes, Isn´t he great. Rodelinda is one of the greats. I also enjoy very much of counter-tenors. If you haven´t heard yet a japan Yoshikazu Mera´s voice do so. He posses more soprano like voice but very beautiful and pure with an amazing pitch. The Rinaldo cd is faboulos with David Taylor another counter tenor and Cecilia Bartoli a magnificient mezzo-soprano. The record mentioned here is a must to everybody who likes Händelian music. _________________ "Ex nihilo nihil fit" |

| Kenzu, Thanks for the Mera tip. I just ordered his Baroque CD. I do have RINALDO with Daniels. I find the aria "Cara Sposa" heart wrenchingly beautiful. I'm curious to know how you have found entrance into this world of countertenors. If I hadn't heard Daniels on the MET opera broadcast, I would never have ventured into buying his music. I love this Handelian side trip. I"m also curious to know if you are an opera fan. MK |

Yes I am but Here in Finland we have very little of counter-tenors and thats a pity. I took myself few lessons but it disturbed my tenor singing lessons. Anyhow my fach is propably now cearing up. I have attended few years finnish national operas performances with my wife and we both enjoy the perfomances very much. Only this season they go through Wagnerian and russian operas which I´m not so keen on. _________________ "Ex nihilo nihil fit" |

| Kenzu, I have been listening to Mera on his "Baroque Arias" CD. I find his singing less powerful than Daniel's. I'm wondering if he sings on the opera stage. So far David Daniel is my favorite countertenor. I'm wondering what kind of a voice attempts to be a countertenor. Could a light lyric voice such as Florez's possibly become a counter tenor? Is sexual orientation a factor? I have to say that it took awhile for me to enjoy this voice type. I had to get over a man singing like a woman and Daniel's voice helped me cross that bridge. I do enjoy Mera's singing. |

Learn all about countertenors clicking on this link:

I also like David Daniels and I've seen him performing at Lincoln Center. And for a great voice and fantastic visuals, don't miss the movie "Farinelli":
