ATTENTION! WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY TO GET YOURS? This is a book of genius, simply, humanly, powerfully written from the point of view of an eleven year old boy who saw his entire world change at the hands of Fidel Castro. It is painful and moving but those feelings that he will stir within you will be mixed with humor so sharp and quirky that you will laugh out loud. Do NOT read this book on a train or in a public place unless you wish to appear psychotic. I tried reading it in bed - that doesn't work either if you are sleeping with someone. Read it where you can treasure every little story, every image or snapshot that pops into your head. There is a snapshot of Carlos on the cover as a three year old. You will come to love that face.
"I was the first to lay eyes on the woman with the big butt. Her rear end was monumental, large enough to contain all of the world, and all of human experience."
"Waiting for Snow In Havana" has won the National Book Award. This is Carlos Eries first, personal book, a book without footnotes. He is a professor of Theology at Yale University. It is wonderful to know that there is out there somewhere a person like Carlos Erie alive. His words and story give hope for the ultimate victory of the human spirit. Enjoy! _________________ Although, in his life, he was often called the imbecile from Illinois, history has proven otherwise. |

No, I haven't but I am always looking for a good book. My tastes run to biographies, history and memoir. I am very picky about fiction and find a lot of it to be commercial trash. I love stories about different cultures, occupations, litigation, environmental issues etc. I think the older a person gets - or, at least me - the more substance is important but then again, the older a person gets, perhaps they have had enough of substance and just want entertainment. This is one of my major problems - I can argue both sides of everything so maybe I should just go to bed! _________________ Although, in his life, he was often called the imbecile from Illinois, history has proven otherwise. |
