Even though I am barely one third of the way through this book, I feel I really must recommend it to anyone who is prepared for a very harrowing and thoughtprovoking read. It is the story of a 15 year old Jewish girl during WW2 who was saved from the gas chambers by her red hair and her lovely green eyes. Instead she was forced to work as a prostitute in an SS brothel on the eastern front, accommodating 12-15 soldiers a day, every moment afraid that she might betray the secret of her Jewishness and follow the rest of her family into oblivion. This is a story of despair, great sacrifice and degradation and of the desperate desire for life. It makes the reader feel at once ashamed and grateful. I simply can't put it down. _________________ "Where are we REALLY going? Always home." |

Is this a true story or a novel? It sounds very interesting, Sally. Thanks for the recommendation. _________________ Fantom |

This is a novel, although based on the personal experiences of the author who was held prisoner in Auschwitz during the war. I am not halfway through yet, but without giving the story away, the situation for Skinny is slightly improved at the moment and I believe that the book will describe the triumph of love and the human spirit in the end. I do hope so. _________________ "Where are we REALLY going? Always home." |
