The music of Andrea Bocelli is like premium olive oil - the first presses were rare and exquisite, prized by all. Subsequent presses are not as rare but for those who tasted the best, the echos of quality, that flavor, is still in evidence. This reaction is good for some and bad or disappointing for others. Bocelli oil is still a quality oil and will remain solidly on the shelf with others of like quality so a certain measure of commercial success is to be expected. For the unitiated, however, chosing among these different, comparable oils, all later presses, it appears unlikely that the Bocelli oil will present as head and shoulders above the others.

For those today who are tasting the Bocelli oil for the first time, it IS premium. The experience they are having is similar to that of those who have been around for ages--that first love. Some of the veterans find the current taste a bit stale, some find it refreshing. After experiencing the latest offering, some go back and realize that what they thought was so good, in fact, had room for improvement. It was quality, but with a little work could be even better. That is what some of us are experiencing today--the fruit of Bocelli's labor--the very best he has to give.

Well, I don't know if Veronica has anything to do with the changes in his singing style or the material he is putting out there. Personally, I doubt that. I feel both of them are being directed by professionals. More likely, I feel music is undergoing the same sort of transformation that we see in dining, housing and clothing. Everything is looking similar. In Venice, I can eat at McD's or in Verona, I can shop at the Gap. Commerical music seems to be based on formulas. I didn't feel that sameness at all in the first three CDs and I liked every single song except one - in all three! I found the songs unusual, different from other music and different from one another.

I think Andrea has been contaminated by mainstream thinking in all areas.
For some, this development and heightened marketing strategies would be considered "getting up to speed" but for others, it feels like a sell out and a shame. There's nothing wrong with being a crooner but they are faceless people doing little more than singing soft and low.

I know many people who are not Bocelli fans but who respect him because of his charm, dignity ,the courtesy he always shows towards others and because he gives his all in performances. So far this his allowed him to rise above the banal situations he finds himself in at times but you have to wonder if this will always be the case. It must be very difficult to resist marketing pressures especially if those around you are urging you to take the easy way out. I agree with willma. There is a movement out there to try to make everything the same. What a pity it would be if Andrea went down this road.I have just been listening to him singing in Verdis Requiem . His part in the"offfertorio" is absolutely amazing ,almost unearthly . I dont care what the opera snobs say noone else could do it like that, but I doubt that he will be encouraged to undertake projects of this kind in the present climate and this will be a great loss.

Actually,considering the vien of these conversations, I strongly believe, with every ounce of intiution in meand with every ounce of respect I have for Andrea and without a shadow of a doubt, that Andrea absoluetly,is his own friend and a "my way or no way" prevails his every decision..I admire this greatly...it is a determination....MY thing is...NO way,hozay...

I feel the same way about the old songs but I still enjoy the new also, Sandi.

I believe if we could hear from some of the guys long gone, where ever they are, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra to name a few. They'd probably saying , "That guy Bocelli sure has the GREATEST voice. I sure am glad he's singing some of my tunes. But, he's doing them better!!"


Give the man a chance. He seems like he's enjoying himself and he knows what he's doing. He'll be back soon enough to his love, opera. Though he's never really left it. A few pop scenes don't mean he's giving it up. Re-exploring his younger daya bit. Let the angel voice sing what he wants
