Kelly Levesque, a singer-songwriter from Harrison, is getting a boost to her music career this weekend when she will perform with singer Andrea Bocelli.
Bocelli will perform June 16 at The Tweeter Center in Boston and June 17 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
Levesque welcomes the opportunity.
"I'm more excited than nervous," says Levesque. "They asked me if I was interested and I said 'Heck, yeah!' "
Levesque, who has been singing since she was 6, signed her first record deal shortly after graduating from Harrison High School, forgoing college to travel the world, recording and writing songs both for herself and others.
"I've been doing this for a long time. I think a lot of people think it happens over night and it doesn't, it take a lot of hard work," she says.
The upcoming year will be a busy one for Levesque. She recently signed a recording contract with Universal Classic Records and plans to devote the rest of the summer to writing and recording her debut album.
"I'm very busy right now. We're beginning the process of putting together the album, doing song selections and stuff," Levesque says .
"I went out to Vegas after signing my first (record) deal. I preformed with The Pussycat Dolls, which was a lot of fun," Levesque says.
After completing her stint with the Dolls' cabaret act, Levesque started focusing on her studio career. She has had modest success with the Diane Warren-penned single "Some Hearts," which was featured on the soundtrack of 2001's "America's Sweethearts," starring Julia Roberts and John Cusack.
From there, Levesque started to expand her repertoire by collaborating with other musicians and producers.
"When I first started recording and stuff, I got thrown in with people like [producers] The Matrix, who have worked with Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears and others"
In 2001, British pop stars Hear'Say recorded Levesque's song "Lovin' is Easy," which eventually hit No. 5 on the British charts. In addition, four of her songs made it onto newcomer Angel Face's yet-to-be-released album.
"I've collaborated with a bunch of people, which is fun. It's fun to hear other people sing your songs," says Levesque.
For inspiration, Levesque looks to artists such as Whitney Houston, John Legend and Celine Dion, whom she says "would be my dream to work with. She is a great instrument and her work ethic is amazing, she just is continuously getting better, just an amazing talent."
