Buongiorno!

My sister, Enrica, came by for a visit with her twins sons at the beginning of this week. With all that she had to pack and bring along in order to take care of two 17 month olds, she was sweet enough to bring a true little treasure of a gift for me. She gave me a copy of The Metropolita Opera Cookbook which the front jacket refers to as "....the ultimate community cookbook..." . Included are favorite recipes "....from the stars, chorus, and orchestra of the world famous Metropolitan Opera."
These include Luciano Pavarotti, Marilyn Horne, Maria Callas, Richard and Sarah Tucker and many others. I'm all set to try out Martii Talvela's Lampaanpotka (Leg of Lamb A La Annukka, his wife) YUM!

There are photographs of these opera greats cooking, at leisure, and at work on stage which are truly a delight to look over. Dishes are listed according to category as in most cookbooks. I am finding it extremely enjoyable to read!

Rosie D, I could not finish this post without letting you know that listed under the Seafood section is a recipe for Matelotte d"Anguille Caruso. This eel dish is described as "..a favorite Enrico Caruso recipe from Antoine's Restaurant in New Orleans." (How could I not think of you!) On the adjacent page is a fabulous full length black and white photo of Caruso on board what appears to be a ship's deck. Looking quite dapper, he is holding a camera, as if taking a photo of the photographer. Very cute.

Published in 1988, I'm suppose it's now out of print. However, I think you could probably find it in libraries or even online. A real treat for Opera Fans.

Buon Appetito!
