This is the N.Y. Times Review. I do not agree with some of what he wrote, but I think the writer realizes that he is way out numbered and we are a lot more passionate about Andrea than he....
Go to this link and read. There is also a nice picture of Andrea which can be enlarged.

Joan is seems that every day they are changing the picture. I went back to copy and paste, but now it is different. So keep checking if you like pictures of Andrea.

BOCELLI PERFORMANCE 'SOUNDS LIKE STRANGULATION'
Critics have mauled Italian tenor ANDREA BOCELLI's performances in New York city last week, calling them "careless" and "unconvincing". Blind Bocelli, who has sold out his concert dates in New York, is slated as a singer who is still living off his fame without having any real vocal talent. New York Times critic BERNARD HOLLAND says, "Bocelli is not a very good singer. The tone is rasping, thin and in general, poorly supported. Even the most modest upward movement thins it even more, signalling what appears to be the onset of strangulation. "To his credit, Mr Bocelli sings mostly in tune. But his phrasing tends towards carelessness and rhythmic jumble, and the little barks and husky vocal expletives that are the mother's milk of Italian tenordom sound faded and unconvincing. The diction is not clear." A review from the Associated Press (AP) also slates Bocelli, proclaiming, "Passion? Yes. Power? No."

Pauline the reason I did not critize the critic is that I feel sorry for them all. In the beginning they choose who is going to fit into thier agenda and who is not. They chose not to accept Andrea for their own reasons quoting the same old retoric over and over again. They are also very jealous of Andrea for all his success without them and they set and moan about the Julliard's that don't make it... It takes more than a loud voice to make a success and Andrea has IT...you can call it anything you want, but I call it IT. The critic's were all over Corelli all the time and now he is a legend. I have been known to call these critic/men SMALL MEN. If they are tall by chance, then maybe I have seen beyond their height LOL.

What really bothers me is that Andrea put himself in an unamlified operatic environment, small scale in comparison to the MET, and was not able to achieve success as measured in terms of an operatic standard. (assuming the critics are correct). Why has he done this? Does he not know his vocal limits? Is he not getting the right kind of advice from his handlers? To me it is a very sad affair.

MK the only venue Andrea has performed an Opera is in Detroit and there was so much "OPERA/CRITIC POLITICS" noise, that no other voice could be heard. I was there and Andrea was wonderful, I was in the first tier back about 6 rows and there was not a note I could not hear.. His acting was fabulous. Those that want Andrea to sing POP will always whale on about his small Opera Voice, because their cut of Andrea's earnings are much more with POP. How sad that Andrea's wants are weighed by others cut of Andrea's money. Let him sing what he wants and where he wants and they will come..take my word for it....

Marilynn can always be relied upon to see things as thy really are and to take the down to earth, common sense approach (If she doesn't mind me saying so]. It does seem a pity that he has to face both the critics and people in his own organisation who have their own agenda. He looked upon the AFH concerts invitation as an honour and it was obviously something he really wanted to do. I think that he will have been prepared for a lot of the criticism because as Marilynn indicated he absolutely infuriates them by his ability to rise above the worst they can throw at him. Some of the criticism was obviously totally unjustified and biased and some of it was of things outside Andrea's control . Some of it even seemed to appreciate his qualities. I hope that overall he got SOMETHING out of it. He obviously needs to set himself challenges and to test himself constantly. This is part of his character. I don't think even the most severe critic could deny his courage.

Hello everybody, I'm new here. I wanted to say I saw Andrea at Wembley on Sunday and I'm still waiting for the goosebumps to go down. He took my breath away.
As for the critics - it's what they do best, the talentless mocking the talented. They have such sad little lives it makes them feel better to put others down. However, they are knocking their heads against a brick wall, because we'll all continue to love Andrea anyway!!! |
