Hi everyone I was wondering if anybody new of hotels outside of the city that were not as expensive? My husband and I are coming from Connecticut and would like to stay on the outskirts and drive in (my husband is very familiar with NY streets, he drives like a cab driver  ). I know of hotels in CT but I would rather stay closer.
Thanks for any help,

For how many nights do you need the hotel? There is also the parking expense. I just had a couple of friends from California that stayed at this boutique hotel, very close to where the concert is taking place and with parking garages around and they just paid $80.00 for a double room, shared bathroom, but impeccably clean. They were very, very pleased. I don't think you want to stay in some cheap motel off a road :) They got the rate mentioned for paying in advance. Check the website and if you like it, call directly. Just in case, it's a walk-up building, no elevator:

As the story goes…
One evening many years ago two brothers on business in the Big Apple missed their train ride home. Being from out of town, getting late into the evening, and not knowing the landscape, they cooled off in a pub and thumbed through the yellow pages in search of a hotel room. Each call was hopeless — either fully booked or well beyond the means of two budget-minded travelers. By 2 am and down to their last nickel, they finally located a hotel room in an obscure and noisy part of town.
Groggy from a sleepless night on a rock hard bed, they began their trek home. While on the train they came up with a novel idea. Convert abandoned brownstones into affordable, quaint, European-style boutiques that are affordable and comfortable for people on the go and on a limited budget.
As the younger brother exclaims, "People want a quality hotel in a decent part of town at an affordable price." The older brother continues, "With so many empty brownstones in great locations throughout the city, we saw an opportunity to not only build a community and improve the neighborhood, but recognize the importance of offering a quality and affordable hotel, with personalized service for the budget-minded traveler."
As we learn from the Amsterdam Inn, amidst a sea of overpriced flagship hotels there can be quality, affordable, and personalized service for the budget-minded traveler. |

Thank you Nellie the Amsterdam sounds great. The story is great too. We only need one night and we were already planning on paying to park in one of the parking garages for the day and just take taxis everywhere. I love New York, I wish I could get there nore often. :)
Thanks again,
