Household Names Dominate Classical Charts

NEW YORK (Billboard) - For classical music, this was a year for established hitmakers and a time in which the line between "classical" and "crossover" became blurrier.
Many artists in the upper reaches of the year-end charts are household names, like vocalist Andrea Bocelli, who ranks as No. 1 on the Top Classical Artists recap; or musical omnivore Yo-Yo Ma, who comes in at No. 3 on that tally. Or that kid named Josh Groban, who takes one, two -- no, three -- top spots on the year-end Top Classical Crossover chart.
As the year ends, Bocelli has the distinction of having two albums in the top 10 of the Top Classical Titles chart, "Sacred Arias: Special Edition" at No. 10 and "Sentimento," which has remained a best seller since its bow in November 2002, at No. 1.
Thanks to Bocelli, Philips wins the No. 1 spot on the Top Classical Imprints recap, while its label group, Universal Classics (which includes Deutsche Grammophon and Decca), takes Top Classical Label honors.

Luciano Pavarotti to Marry
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2003--The world's most celebrated opera singer, Luciano Pavarotti, will marry his long-term partner, Dr Nicoletta Mantovani, in the tenor's home city of Modena, Italy, this coming Saturday, 13 December. The official host of the wedding is the couple's one-year old daughter, Alice.
The wedding will take place in the city's Teatro Communale (the main theatre in Modena's old city) at midday. This will be followed by a reception in a huge, specially-constructed marquee in the Parco Novi Sad (Modena's main park).
The designer, Giorgio Armani, designed the gowns of Dr Mantovani and Alice Pavarotti.
Andrea Bocelli will perform Ave Maria at the ceremony and guests will include family and friends from around the world, including artists who have performed at Pavarotti & Friends concerts.
