A SPECTACLE of pearls, pashminas, and pretty dresses filled the Point Theatre last night to hear the man who has made opera sexy - Andrea Bocelli.
The crowd was glam - and so was the attitude. There was polite wine sipping in the foyer, an orderly queue for the toilets and in the whole evening, not one mobile phone went off.
With tickets costing as much as €155, the pressure was on the blind tenor from Pisa to leave his adoring public feeling it was money well spent.
Renditions of recognisable favourites from composers like Puccini, Verdi and Di Capua had last night's audience at the Point in raptures.
Yes, you've heard this one a thousand times, but have you ever heard it sung quite so beautifully?
Bocelli was accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra, and violin soloist Ruth Rogers. But his most important sidekick was soprano Maria Luigia Borsi, whose glass-shattering vocals were eclipsed only by her glitzy and rather revealing gown.
Her duets with Bocelli were a highlight throughout the evening. The musical chemistry between the two singers as their voices soared and dived from note to note gave the songs a tenderness not always associated with the opera.
Towards the end of the evening, Bocelli's voice glided up and down the familiar strains of 'O Sole Mio', which got some fans out of their seats with enthusiasm, and one could only wonder how it was possible for someone to create such a beautiful sound.
And as the song came to an end, one also wondered about the location of the nearest Cornetto.
